Learn about the history of police secrecy and investigation - how it is documented through the lens of film - at this screening of 'Lasting Marks' and 'Evidence of the Evidence'.

The award-winning film maker Charlie Lyne, the director of Lasting Marks, will be present to talk about the process of archival discovery in film making. And afterwards an expert panel will address police secrecy and investigation, how it is mediated, documented and remembered, and what the medium of film reveals about the relationship between law enforcement, sexuality and race.

The panel will include: Dr Alex Dymock (Lecturer in Law, Goldsmiths, University of London), Dr Kiran Grewal (Reader in Human Rights, Goldsmiths, University of London), Dr Matt Lodder (Senior Lecturer in Art History, University of Essex), Charlie Lyne (filmmaker and director of Lasting Marks) and Dr Aidan O’Sullivan (Lecturer in Criminology, Birmingham City University).

The evening will run as follows:

Introductory talk with Charlie Lyne: 6.05 – 6.20
Lasting Marks Screening: 6.20 – 6.35
Evidence of the Evidence screening: 6.35 – 7.00
Panel discussion: 7.00 – 7.45

This screening is part of the Being Human festival, the UK’s only national festival of the humanities. A celebration of humanities research through public engagement, it is led by the School of Advanced Study at the University of London, the UK’s national centre for the pursuit, support and promotion of research in the humanities, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
