Teresa Cisneros and Laurence Rassel in conversation

In this session, we look at the implications of Institutional Analysis for contemporary institutions. A conversation between Laurence Rassel -who has drawn from Institutional Psychotherapy, cybernetics and feminism to radically re-formulate an art school in Brussels - and Teresa Cisneros - who - informed by feminist, anti-colonial practice, is currently working on reconstructing systems towards forms of transformational and institutional justice at the Wellcome Collection - will tease out the possibilities and blockages of IA in the present.

Teresa Cisneros is a Chicana Londoner. Originally from the Mexico-Texas border 'La Frontera' she practices from where she is from not where she is. A curandera and an arts administrator from 2016-18 she curated Object Positions at the Showroom Gallery to explore cultural equity, decolonial processes and colonial administration. In 2018, she wrote document 0 a series of scripted conversations exploring art institutions and administration. Cisneros is part of agency for agency and currently Inclusive Practice Lead at Wellcome Collection.

Laurence Rassel is Director of erg (école de recherche graphique – école supérieure des arts), Brussels, where she has re-worked the institutional code of an art school to incorporate transversal working groups around key institutional processes. As a cultural worker informed by feminist and cybernetic cultures, she was the Director of Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona (2008-14). From 1997 to 2008, Rassel was member of Constant, a non-profit association and interdisciplinary arts-lab based and active in Brussels dealing with free software, copyright alternatives and (cyber)feminism (http://www.constantvzw.org/).
