We are excited to present Heiner Goebbels in conversation with Ed McKeon, prior to the London premiere of his latest work, "A House of Call"

Composer and director Heiner Goebbels (b. 1952) is one of the most important exponents of the contemporary music and theatre scene. His compositions for ensembles and big orchestras which are published by Ricordi Berlin, are currently performed worldwide, as well as several of his music theatre works and staged concerts, mostly produced by Théâtre Vidy Lausanne, the Ensemble Modern and International Festival of the Arts RUHRTRIENNALE.

Heiner Goebbels worked for almost 20 years as a professor at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies of the Justus Liebig University in Giessen (1999-2018) and was President of the Theatre Academy Hessen for from years 2006 to 2018. From 2012 to 2014 he was the artistic director of the International Festival of the Arts RUHRTRIENNALE.

In 2020 he composed the orchestra cycle 'A House of Call', which had its world premiere due to the pandemic only in 2021 at Berlin Philharmony, Cologne Philharmony, Hamburg Elbphilharmony and others in September 2021, and will receive its UK premiere on 25 March at the Southbank Centre under the baton of the Namibian-American conductor Vimbayi Kaziboni. In his work, Goebbels used recordings from his travels and archival research filled with distorted sounds of spoken word and songs from different cultures (including Namibia, Armenia, Iran and Colombia), some of which were imprinted with signs of racist and colonial conditions that the performers experienced.
