Performing and Not Performing, performed by Jia-Yu Corti is a new performance-experiment presented by NEUROLIVE

Performing and Not Performing, performed by Jia-Yu Corti is a new performance-experiment presented by NEUROLIVE, developed in collaboration with choreographer and performer Jia-Yu Corti.

This performance-experiment plays with the spectrum of states between performing and not-performing – both in terms of how performers generate these different states, and how audiences perceive them. This playful experiment draws on acclaimed performer Jia-Yu Corti’s expertise in skilfully navigating her way through this range of states of intentionally 'being yourself' to greater and lesser degrees, while performing.

You are invited to participate in this experiment as an audience member, witnessing Jia-Yu Corti’s performance, specially created for this experiment. You will be asked to wear glasses that record your eye movements while you watch the performance. You will also be asked to fill in some questionnaires before, during and after the performance. The whole experiment will take approximately 75 minutes and you will be paid £15 for your participation.

Your participation in this experiment as an audience member contributes to NEUROLIVE, a 5-year interdisciplinary research project bringing artists, scientists and audiences together to study what makes live experiences special.

Each performance will have capacity for 10 audience members to participate in the experiment.
