Sketches and Spectra: a salon

Peter Sheppard Skærved brings a typically inventive programme to the Goldsmiths, counterpointing works from the age of Louis XIV & Louis XV with some of the hundreds of pieces dedicated to him. Mihailo Trandafilovski finds worlds of expression and colour in the spaces between harmonics and timbres. Paul Pellay continues his poetic series of ‘Consolations’, evoking the subtle beauty of our daily emotions. Both Sadie Harrison and Hafliði Hallgrímsson respond to visual art, from the sketchbooks of this performer and the genius of Paul Klee (himself a violinist).

Programme:
Marin Marais – ‘Le Badinage (Pièces de viole, Livre 4 ) 1717
Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe (fl. 1640-1690) – ‘Les Pleurs’
De Machy le Sieur – Courante et Double 1685
Mihailo Trandafilovski - дисторзија –спектар спектар спектар /distortion –spectrum 2018
Paul Pellay – Consolations 2020-2023
Sadie Harrison – Movements from ‘Gallery’ 2012
Hafliði Hallgrímsson – Klee Sketches 2004 - 2019

‘Skærved is fully on top of even its most stratospheric technical challenges’ Gramophone Magazine

‘Peter Sheppard Skaerved clearly responds to the music’s communicative desires; it now has a conversational tone, now sings with the breathiness of a very human voice’ New York Times
