You are all invited to join us for an evening of discussion and music with singer/songwriter Dr. Toby Martin as he explores the intersection of song writing, community and place. Students at all levels and from all departments are especially welcome. Toby will be talking through his practice working with communities to write and produce meaningful place-based music. Reflecting on his work, including his recent collaboration with Đăng Lan 'Song Khúc Lượn Bay (Two Sounds Gliding), Toby will discuss co-authorship, the significance of place, and the power of music in communicating across cultural differences. Spaces are limited so please try and book.

Toby Martin is a songwriter, musician, practice-led researcher, and cultural historian. His practice-led research responds to place, memory, and home through song. Using cross-cultural song-writing collaborations between musicians and non-musicians, Toby’s practice develops strategies for social inclusivity through music. He has released nine albums, both solo and with the band Youth Group, and has toured extensively internationally.
