Songs of the Saints: Tamil Traditions and New Creativities

Songs of the Saints: Tamil Traditions and New Creativities is a unique performance project that builds bridges between professional Tamil musicians in London and musical creativity at Goldsmiths. Featuring new collaborative works led by the composer Francis Silkstone, the concert develops musical connections between Tamil devotional songs, Carnatic music and Western harmony and polyphony.

It is a rare opportunity to hear the rich musical tradition that is performed daily in London's Tamil Hindu communities in a new musical context. Featuring the performers Manipallavam K. Sarangan (Carnatic vocalist), Ratheeshkumar Manoharan (Carnatic violin), P. Kirupakaran (mridangam barrel drum), Lin Lin (flute), Catarina Dellabona (clarinet) and Pete Yelding (cello), working with the composer Francis Silkstone and the researcher Jasmine Hornabrook.

The creative performances are part of a research project funded by the 10th Anniversary AHRC Cultural Engagement Fund and hosted by the Asian Music Unit at Goldsmiths.

Free event, all welcome.

There will be a second performance on Friday 13th May at 7:30pm at the London Tamil Centre, 253 East Lane, Wembley, HAO 3NN
