Ecocide Continuum in Vietnam

‘Ecocide Continuum in Vietnam’ aims to evidence past, ongoing, and emergent forms of ecocide in Vietnam. Departing from a recent incident, the project will develop novel methods of environmental reconstruction to examine the transformation of Vietnam's coastal, forest and plantation ecologies.

Through intergenerational and diasporic memory, the research will explore the longer histories of environmental violence, counter-insurgency warfare and colonial extraction alongside corresponding waves of forced environmental migration. The project aims to contribute to contemporary discussions around the establishment of “ecocide” as an international crime by revisiting the rippling effects of eco-violence in Vietnam, where early articulations of ecocide failed to deliver justice for its victims.
